The Center for Social Change

The Center for Social Change – This is a ecologically based short term solution-focused outpatient practice providing families and children with the tools to heal from trauma and dysfunction and live successfully in a community environment.  In addition to standard family, individual and group therapy modalities, adjunct therapies such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and play therapy are provided.  The Out Patient. Project provides community based intervention that facilitate healthy personal family relationships with a strong emphasis on emotional and physical healing, creating sustainable family relationships, and empowering individuals to reclaiming their futures.

Other services offered for the poor and disadvantaged in our communities will be emergency housing, payment of utility bills to avoid disconnection, and groceries to fill empty cupboards.

Specific programs for youth and teens such as the purchase of coats, shoes, and school supplies will also be a priortiy. A summer day camp with both recreational and educational activities is planned for underprivileged children ages four to fifteen.  Special programs that involve music in an educational medium will be included.

Additional programs to improve the mental health of family members will be offered.  Graduates of these programs would have a better chance of success in school and/or work having learned to show respect for themselves and others, respond to challenges appropriately, and/or parent more effectively.

Future plans include the provision of permanent housing for homeless families with children.  As needed, assistance with finding employment, budgeting, opening a bank account and balancing a check book will be provided to the parent(s) in these families.  Other programs that assist in community development projects will be added as opportunities arise.
